That text saying the FTC owes you money from a credit repair case? Fake.

Scammers built fake FTC websites off a real credit repair lawsuit. The agency just took 19 of them down.

What happened

The FTC says it is cracking down hard on people pretending to be the agency itself. On October 29, 2026, the FTC announced it stopped 19 websites built to impersonate the agency, many riding on the coattails of its real case against Credit Glory. <cite index="12-5,12-6">The FTC most recently took action against Credit Glory, an alleged sham credit repair scheme that impersonated debt collection entities and creditors and took $200 million from U.S. consumers, including military servicemembers, and in August 2026 a federal court temporarily halted the scheme and froze its assets at the FTC's request.</cite>

Scammers then built fake sites around that real case to trick people who got caught up in it. <cite index="12-7">Registrars took down 19 websites, including names like fttc.us, FTC-Support.org, ftc-v-credit-glory-llc.pages.dev, and FTC-Complaints.org, after the FTC sent takedown letters.</cite> The agency's consumer protection chief put it bluntly: <cite index="12-4">"If you pretend to be, or to be affiliated with, an entity to deceive consumers, you should expect to hear from the us."</cite>

What it means for you

If you were ever a Credit Glory customer, or just searched "FTC credit repair refund" online, you could land on one of these lookalike sites. They're built to feel official, with FTC-sounding names and government-style layouts, but they're not run by the government.

What to do

  • Only trust links that start with ftc.gov or consumerfinance.gov. Anything close but slightly off, like "ftc-help.com," is a red flag.
  • Never pay a fee or hand over your Social Security number to "claim" a government refund.
  • If you spot a fake site, report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
